Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - On Wednesday night, the Lewiston MAINEiacs took on the top team in the QMJHL, as the Quebec Remparts came to town. The MAINEiacs protected their home ice, as Cameron Critchlow's goal with 5:54 remaining in regulation gave Lewiston a 4-3 win in front of 1,747 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
The MAINEiacs drew first blood at the 12:59 mark of the opening stanza. Zach Shannon's shot from the point got stopped by Louis Domingue, but Etienne Brodeur was there to pounce on the trash, depositing his 16th goal of the season for a 1-0 lead after one. Lewiston controlled the play in the first, outshooting Quebec, 11-4.
Early in the second period, the Remparts tied the score, thanks to Mickael Tam's shot that deflected off of the post, off of Nicholas Champion, and in. Twelve minutes later, Quebec took the lead, as Ryan Bourque rifled home a shot from the left circle off a feed from Jonathan Audy-Marchessault. However, the MAINEiacs weren't about to let the Remparts carry that lead into the intermission, as Jess Tanguy knotted the score with 55 seconds left in the period.
Seven minutes into the third, Lewiston regained the lead, as Etienne Brodeur poked the puck free and was off to the races, slipping his fourth shorthanded goal of the year through the legs of Domingue. Unfortunately for the MAINEiacs, Quebec also scored on that man advantage, as Joel Champagne tipped Alex Wall's point shot past a frustrated Champion.
On this night, the MAINEiacs had the final say, as Cameron Critchlow got a piece of Olivier Dame-Malka's point shot at the 14:06 mark of the third period, putting the home team ahead for good, 4-3.
Nicholas Champion earned the win, making 19 saves on 22 shots for Lewiston. Louis Domingue suffered his first loss in 13 games for Quebec, turning aside 21 of the 25 shots he faced.
The MAINEiacs continue their five-game homestand with a weekend series against the Val-d'Or Foreurs on Friday and Saturday. Both games will begin at 7:00.
