MAINEiacs Double up Cataractes, 4-2

Lewiston, Maine (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs kept the positive mojo going in the state of Maine, winning for the seventh consecutive time on home ice. Tuesday night's victims were the Shawinigan Cataractes, who fell 4-2 at the hands of the MAINEiacs in front of 1,805 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The MAINEiacs got off to a great start, building a 2-0 lead in the first six-plus minutes of the contest. At the 3:51 mark of the first, Zach Shannon sent a shot in from the point that was deflected into the goal by Cole Hawes. For Hawes, the goal was his second in as many games since returning from injury. Less than three minutes later, Lewiston added to the lead, as Kirill Kabanov knocked a loose puck off of Michael Chaput's initial shot.

Shawinigan was quick to respond to Lewiston's early offensive attack, scoring twice in less than one minute to tie the score at two. Ryan Kavanagh got the scoring started for the Cataractes, as he buried a wrist shot from the top of the left circle. 55 seconds later, Dave Labrecque got the equalizer, cruising around the offensive zone, before slipping a shot into the net from the left side of the slot.

The game stayed tied until the midway mark of the second period, when the MAINEiacs regained the lead. Ian Saab took a wrist shot from the right point that found its way into the back of the cage. Both of Saab's goals this season have come against the Cataractes. Michael Chaput added some insurance in the third period, lifting a backhander into the top of the net while on a shorthanded breakaway.

Andrey Makarov was one of the keys to Lewiston's victory, as he stopped 37 of the 39 shots he faced for his six win in seven tries. Gabriel Girard suffered the loss, despite making 32 saves on 36 shots for Shawinigan.

The MAINEiacs will conclude their four-game homestand on Saturday night at 7:00, when they take on the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
