MAINEiacs defeat Chicoutimi 4-2

Marc-Andre Perron, an affiliated player for the MAINEiacs was called up to play goal earned the win as both of Lewiston's regular backstops were returning from their respective international competitions. 19-year Jaroslav Halak made it back to Lewiston 90 prior to game-time, but his equipment remained in transit. Halak was a member of Team Slovakia at the 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. 16-year old Jonathan Bernier was scheduled to leave Montreal Airport at 9:30 pm this evening on his way back to Lewiston. Bernier was in Lethbridge, Alberta as a member Team Quebec for the World Under-17 Championships.

Nick Cowan – in his first game in the past couple of months – came out early in the first period and fired a rocket from just inside the blueline to beat Brandon Verge high to the glove side. Chicoutimi's Maxime Boisclair equaled the score with just over under 3 minutes to play in the first period.

Boisclair's offensive ability continued in the second as the Sags took a 2-1 lead on his second goal of the game. Lewiston's Alex Bourret scored his 22nd of the year to equal the score before the end of the 2nd stanza.

It was 17-year old rookie Eric Castonguay night to shine as he potted the game winner 7 minutes in the final frame. With just under a minute to play, Alex Picard notched his 25th of the season on the empty net.

Brandon Verge, a former MAINEiacs player faced 51 shots and earned himself the game's second star. Perron recorded the win for Lewiston.
