Boisclair, Brassard and Houle named players of the month in the QMJHL

LONGUEUIL, Wednesday January 5th 2005 (QMJHL) – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today its offensive, rookie and defensive players for the month of December 2004.

After a vote taken by the 16 QMJHL coaches, Maxime Boisclair, of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, earned the title of Offensive Player of the Month for the period starting on December 1st and ending on December 31st. Also, the Drummondville Voltigeurs’ player Derick Brassard was named Rookie of the Month, while goalie Martin Houle, of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, won the Defensive Player of the Month award.

In December, Boisclair, a 19 year-old left-winger from Port-au-Prince, collected 18 points, including 6 goals, in 10 games. He scored 2 power play goals and registered 3 winning tallies. Also, his plus/minus rating for December was at +6.

As for rookie Derick Brassard, a 17 year-old center player born in Hull, he totalled 4 goals and 11 assists, for a total of 15 points in only 9 games. He concluded the month of December with a plus/minus rating of +3.

In the battle for the Defensive Player award, 19 year-old goaltender Martin Houle earned this month’s honours. During the month of December, Houle, an eight-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2004, showed a record of 5 wins, 2 losses and 0 tie in 8 games. Also, in a little more than 450 minutes of playing time, Houle allowed 17 goals, for a 2.26 goals against average. He faced an average of 25.5 shots per game and carried a .911 save percentage. He also registered one shutout.
