MAINEiacs awarded Jean-Rougeau Trophy

BOUCHERVILLE, Friday, March 23, 2007 - The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, was on hand tonight at Androscoggin Bank Colisée to present the Jean-Rougeau Trophy to the regular season champion Lewiston MAINEiacs prior to their game against the Shawinigan Cataractes.

"The MAINEiacs had a great year and today, they were rewarded with the Jean-Rougeau Trophy. I'd like to congratulate the players, the coaching staff as well as the whole organization for this tremendous accomplishment," said the Commissioner.

Lewiston also received the Robert-Lebel Trophy, which honours the QMJHL's best defensive club, from the Director of Hockey Operations, Raymond Bolduc. The MAINEiacs allowed a league-low 196 goals over the course of their seventy-game season. Goaltenders Jonathan Bernier and Peter Delmas received the Trophy on behalf of their teammates. Moreover, captain Marc-André Cliche received the Guy-Carbonneau Trophy (best defensive forward) from the team's loyal sponsor, Yvan Lapointe of Yvan Lapointe Drywall. In 52 games, Cliche scored 24 goals, including four game-winners and four shorthanded markers while adding 30 assists for a total of 54 points. He was also a healthy +24. At the Metro Centre in Halifax, 17 year-old Mooseheads forward Jakub Voracek received the Michel-Bergeron Trophy, which celebrates the year's top offensive rookie, from Steve Smith, the General Manager of Steele Ford Lincoln. Voracek finished atop the rookie scoring standings with 23 goals and 86 points. Moreover, he scored 8 powerplay goals and 6 game-winners. Voracek is widely considered as one of the QMJHL's top prospects for this summer's upcoming NHL Entry Draft. (photo credit - mooseheads.ns.sympatico.ca)

At Centre 200 in Cape Breton, the Screaming Eagles received the Luc-Robitaille Trophy as the League's best offensive club. André Côté of Cape Breton Beverages presented the award to Screaming Eagles captain James Sheppard. Cape Breton scored a League-high 308 regular season goals. (photo credit - Mike Sullivan)

Finally, at the Air Creebec Centre, Val-d'Or Foreurs captain Kristopher Letang was awarded the Kevin-Lowe Trophy as the QMJHL's best defensive defenseman. Mr Glenn J. Mullan, governor of the Foreurs, and Mrs Josée Falvo, Air Creebec's human resources director, handed-out the hardware to Letang, who finished the season with 14 goals, including four game-winners, and 38 helpers despite playing in only forty games. Furthermore, he maintained a +19 (plus/minus) differential to help his team claim the TELUS division title.
