Moncton Magic News Release
With the regular season winding down, the Moncton Magic hosted the #1 ranked London Lightening Sunday afternoon for one of their last three home games. The first matchup between these two resulted in an intense seat-grabbing double overtime in which the Lightening snatched the W in the last minute of play.
London's initial burst set in motion an 11 point run in the 1st which gave them the leading edge, however Moncton hit hard starting the 2nd and managed to outscore the visitors by 11 points, dropping the halftime lead to one point. The home team was able to sustain that level of play for the remaining minutes and despite a few lead changes, rose above and took the matchup 108-103.
The Moncton team, looking for a few more wins to clinch their playoff spot, had again altered their roster. This time they released Marquis Clayton and activated Marvell Waithe, formerly of the Niagara River Lions; a move that obviously worked to their benefit.
Terry Thomas was named the undisputed Player of the Game for the win over London. He created the lion's share of the offence, hit over 65%, and finished with 12 rebounds, 5 assists, and 29 points.
Another huge highlight for Moncton was the involvement by their two newest players; Juan Pattillo finished with 9 rebounds and 16 points, Marvell Waithe with 5 rebounds and 17 points.
The Lightening also saw a high usage rate, topped by Kyle Johnson and Garrett Williamson who had 21 and 19 respectively. Always-effective Royce White had a 14-rebound 16-point double-double on Sunday.
The Magic will now rest until Thursday when they'll hit the road, first playing the Cape Breton Highlanders, then the Halifax Hurricanes before returning to the Coliseum March 17th to again play the Highlanders, this time at home.
