Moncton Magic News Release
The Magic have added another very strong piece to the puzzle this week, as today the team announced the signing of NBL Canada veteran, and former Saint John Riptide star Jeremiah Mordi.
Magic Head Coach and GM of Player Personnel, Joe Salerno believes this is a big signing, that will bolster the club's roster, and add some similar depth to the team which was such a key to their success in last season's championship run.
"Jeremiah Mordi is a very, very good basketball player. He does everything well and can be an absolute dog on the defensive end, something that we feel will fit right in with our style of play. He has been as consistent of a player in our league the last two seasons as anyone. He plays the game the right way, unselfishly, and with a high basketball IQ. We are very excited to see Jeremiah in the black and silver this season" commented Salerno.
Mordi, a 6'4" guard from Valley Stream, New York played his college basketball at Queens College, where in his senior season he averaged over 19 points and 7 rebounds per game, earning him 2nd team All-Conference honors in 2015.
For the past two seasons Mordi has been a staple in the Saint John Riptide back court, establishing a reputation as one of the best on ball defenders in the NBL. Having played in 87 games over the last two years in the league, he has compiled some impressive stats, with NBL Career averages of 10.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, all while never shooting below 40% from the 3-point line.
"I'm grateful after a long summer of hard work to continue my professional career with the NBL defending Champions the Moncton Magic. A class organization with a championship pedigree that will push and challenge me to be the best version of myself" commented Mordi. "I'm looking forward to getting to work with my new coaches and teammates as we prepare for another championship run."
Mordi marks the fourth player signing the Magic have announced this off-season, joining veterans Jason Calliste, Denzell Taylor, and Wayne McCullough. The team plans to announce more player signing's over the next month, as it prepares to kick off training camp in early November.
