Magic Clinch Playoff Spot with Win over Highlanders
The Moncton Magic traveled to Cape Breton Thursday night for their second last matchup against the Highlanders. The Sydney team entered the game desperate to start their move up from 5th and avoid playoff elimination, the Magic pushing for a possible 1st place finish.
Despite a standard start for the Magic, going +3 in both the first and second quarters, they fell into a serious groove in the next half and went +14 in 3rd, and +10 in the 4th, winning 135-105 over the home team.
Moncton was happy to see 11 players on the board with five in double-digits (three more just shy). The highlight of this match was in the performance of Corey Allmond (Named POG) who hit an impressive 8 from the arc for 28 total points. Terry Thomas, also heavily involved, dropped 30 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
Although Cape Breton struggled to match the Magic, Rick Bodiford and Jamal Reynolds managed to create some competing offence and end the game with 19 points each; the latter had 8 rebounds as well.
The Magic next head to Halifax to play the Hurricanes March 15th, before returning to the Coliseum March 17th to again play the Highlanders, this time at home.
This win puts the Magic at 20-15 for the season, solidifying 2nd, placing them five wins above their NB rivals the Saint John Riptide, and leaving just two behind the East-leading Halifax Hurricanes.
