Louisville Fire News Release
The Louisville Fire was able to overcome a 17 point deficit in the fourth quarter last Saturday night thanks in large part to rookie Offensive Specialist Rob Mager. Mager's 15 catches for 167 yards and four touchdowns have earned him Offensive Player of the Week honors following the Fire's 55-54 victory over Macon.
Mager caught three touchdowns in the Fire's 35 point fourth quarter and half of Matt Sauk's 30 completions found their way into Mager's hands. Mager has had a breakout season in his rookie campaign. He finished the 2005 regular season leading the Fire in receptions (125), receiving yards (1439), touchdowns (39). Mager's reception and touchdown total were both Fire regular season records.
"Rob has been outstanding for us at the OS spot this season," commented Fire head coach Tommy Johnson. "Whenever we have needed a big play we could count on Rob."
Mager's award is the third straight for the Fire and the sixth this season. Matthew Sauk was named Offensive Player of the Week last week. Andrew Tippins was named ADT Defensive Player of the Week in Week 17. Mager's college teammate and current roommate Cesare Manning was named Offensive Player of the Week in Week 13. Tony Stallings and Demetrius Forney were selected as US Army Ironman of the Week in weeks 2 and 5 respectively. The six awards winners ties the Fire with Rio Grande Valley for the most in af2 this season.
The Fire will head to Manchester this weekend for the American Conference Semi-finals on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 and the game can be heard on 1080-AM WKJK.
