Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- A crowd of 5,969 came out to watch Florida's Magic Benton win the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game, Macon's Marcus Bradley in the ADT Defensive Player of the Game, and Macon's John Mannino win the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game.
After not scoring a single point in the second half, the Florida Firecats (7-5) dropped their second game in a row after the Macon Knights (3-9) handed them a 43-34 defeat.
After Florida led the whole game, Macon's Sheddrick Risper returned an interception three yards to the Macon three-yard line. With four minutes left in the game, Macon quarterback Will Burch hit Jamaal Garman for a five-yard touchdown to bring the Firecats lead down to 34-30. On the ensuing Firecat drive, Macon's Marcus Bradley picked off a pass and ran in all the way to the end zone. After a Jonathan Ohliger extra point, Macon led 37-34. The Macon defense then stood up the Firecat offense for a third straight time, forcing them to turn the ball over on downs on their own goal line. Burch then cashed it in to make the score 43-34 Macon. After Comone Fisher blocked the extra point, his second blocked kick on the night, the final stood.
Quarterback Ken Mastrole came out hot, throwing four touchdown passes in the first half. During the first half, Mastrole broke the Firecats' single season passing yardage and passing touchdown records. He finished the night 14 of 29 for 149 yards and four scores.
Cainon Lamb led all receivers with six catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns. Anthony Snead added three catches for 51 yards and one score. Desmond Washington also had his first touchdown reception of the year on a 25-yard pass from Mastrole. Magic Benton added five catches for 35 yards.
