Macon could be on the world stage come January 2008

The American Basketball Association Macon,Georgia Gwizzlies organization want the sports world to have "Georgia on their Minds" come January 2008.The Gwizzlies have campaigned to the ABA League office to host the 2008 ABA All-Star game,Slam Dunk and 3-point shot contest at the Macon Centreplex January 28-29.The organization must present the League a sponsorship plan to host the event. Delta Airlines,Airtran and Howard Johnson Inn are being contacted to assist in the event. "This would mean something special to the city of Macon,Middle Georgia,a milestone to sports fans" says Embry Malone. Atlanta Hawks scout Harold Ellis and David Archer of Cartesville have been invited to be judges for the Slam Dunk contest.Phil Oliver and Mike Glenn a former Atlanta Hawks will judge the 3-point contest.The organization already has contacted Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin,United States Congressman John Lewis and Gwizzlies board adviser Martin Luther King III to help the organization stage the events.As this new release goes forth,Phil Oliver has been asked to contact his personal friend,the civil rights icon,the honorable Andrew Young for guidance,who regularly attends pro basketball games.
