Chicago Machine News Release
July 8, 2006 - After a strong effort in the first half against the San Francisco Dragons, the Chicago Machine could not stack up to the Dragons and were defeated 10-22.
After San Francisco attackman Joe Yevoli scored the first goal of the game, the Chicago Machine powered back with three goals of their own. From the defensive line, Jeff Bigas scored the first Chicago goal of the game to begin the three goal streak which was followed by goals from Dan Paccione and Sean Morris. After three goals by Chicago, San Francisco scored three more goals to bring the score to 4-3 at the end of the first quarter. Ryan Powell proved to be a strong force during the first quarter for the Dragons, scoring one goal for San Francisco while also assisting two other goals scored by Matt Alrich.
At the start of the second quarter, Brad Reppert scored his first goal of the day for the Dragons, but the goal was answered back by a 2-point shot made by Chicago midfielder Brent Rothfuss - tying the score 5-5. Steve Dusseau and Kevin Leveille each scored a goal for Chicago in the second, but they were still outscored six goals to three against the Dragons. At the half, the Machine was down by four goals ending the second quarter 7-10.
Brent Rothfuss and Doug Shanahan scored one goal apiece in the third quarter for the Machine, but again Chicago was outscored by San Francisco six goals to two.
The Machine ended the first half still in reach of moving ahead of the Dragons, but the Machine fell far behind in the second half with only three goals scored while San Francisco scored eleven goals - one of those a 2-point goal by Zummo.
At the end of the day, the Dragons were able to make the plays and shots they needed to defeat the Machine 22-10. Ryan Powell was awarded Bud Light Game MVP with five goals and five assists.
