Toronto Lynx News Release
(TORONTO, ON) - The Toronto Lynx coaching staff and players, in conjunction with Toronto Police Services and the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation Department, will provide the second of three K.I.C.K.S. Soccer Clinics tomorrow, Friday, August 5th from 2-4pm at the Winchester Public School playing fields located at 15 Prospect Street (off of Parliament Street, south of Wellesley Street East).
The clinic will be a homecoming for Toronto Lynx Head Coach, Hubert Busby Jr., who grew up in the Cabbagetown area of Toronto and will be returning to his roots to conduct the clinic. Lynx players Rick Titus, Dave Simpson, Andres Arango and Robbie Aristomdemo, along with Police Officers from 31, 51 and 55 Divisions and members of Toronto Parks and Recreation, will join Busby in the delivery of the clinic. Guest coaching will also be provided by members of the Canadian Street Soccer Team, which is coming off an appearance at the 2005 Homeless World Cup in Edinburgh, Scotland. The clinic is expected to attract approximately one hundred 10-14 year-olds from St. Jamestown and the Regent Park areas of Toronto. The first K.I.C.K.S. clinic took place on July 21st at York University and the program will conclude with a clinic at Centennial Park on Sunday, August 21st with the youth in attendance attending the Lynx match versus the Puerto Rico Islanders following the clinic at 6pm.
Lynx Technical Consultant, Dick Howard, who was instrumental in the development of the K.I.C.K.S. program, explains, "This is another of the community projects that are a very important part of the Lynx organization. We are very happy to be involved with the Toronto Police and Parks and Recreation and to have the opportunity to help disadvantaged youth reach their full potential. This is a program that we definitely hope to expand in the future."
