ST. PAUL, Minn. (Thursday, August 4, 2005)-The Minnesota Thunder (5-8-6, 21 pts.) travels west to take on the Portland Timbers LIVE on Fox Soccer Channel this Friday, August 5 at PGE Park in Portland, Oregon. Kick-off is set for 10 p.m. CST.
All fans are encouraged to attend a watch party at Champps Americana in St. Paul located at 2401 W. 7th Street. There will be giveaways and trivia for all who attend.
This will be the third meeting of four between the Thunder and the Timbers (5-7-5, 20 pts) this season and the second in Portland. In the two previous meetings, both matches ended in draws by a score of 1-1 on April 29 and 2-2 on May 7.
"We are feeling good about our team right now," said head coach Buzz Lagos. "Our confidence is high coming off our Open Cup victory Wednesday night. Portland is always a tough place to play, but we are definitely up to the challenge."
The Thunder has not won in Portland since May 27, 2003 when they blanked the Timbers 3-0.
On Saturday, August 6, the Thunder will visit the Seattle Sounders for the second time in two weeks. Seattle edged the Thunder in the last meeting on July 23 by a score of 1-0.
The Thunder's next home game will be Wednesday, August 10 at 7:05 p.m. against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Select Comfort will be giving away free soccer ball pillows to the first 500 fans through the gate.
