Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - The Muskegon Lumberjacks and Waterloo Black Hawks have agreed to a trade that sees two forwards and a handful of picks exchanged between the teams.
Muskegon Receives:
David Klee, 2005, F
2024 Phase I, 9th round
Waterloo Receives:
Luke Buss, 2003, F
2024 Phase I, 3rd round
2024 Phase II, 4th round
Conditional Pick
Muskegon adds a big, young forward in David Klee. The Castle Rock, CO native stands 6'3, 187 pounds providing size and skill to the Jacks' offensive end.
Lumberjacks head coach Parker Burgess had this to say about adding Klee to the lineup "We believe David is a great fit for our organization. He's a big, powerful centerman who has a strong skill set. He also brings an element of abrasiveness to his game that makes him difficult to play against. David is a high-character young man and we believe he will take a huge step forward going into his second year of Junior hockey."
Klee comes from a hockey family. His dad Ken played 14 years in the National Hockey League amassing 195 points and 880 penalty minutes in 934 games played. Brothers Garrett and Mason are both former USHL players. Garrett played one season in Madison before joining the Black Hawks for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons before playing four years of NCAA DI hockey at Northern Michigan University. Mason is a 2019 Clark Cup Champion with the Sioux Falls Stampede. After four years at RPI Mason is set to take his fifth year at Ohio State this fall.
This past season Klee appeared in 57 games for Waterloo recording 13 points and 92 penalty minutes. Should Klee be drafted in June at the 2023 NHL Draft or record 30 or more points this season in Muskegon then the Black Hawks will also receive the Lumberjacks 2025 Phase II 4th round pick.
Going the other way in the trade is Columbus, OH native Luke Buss. In 54 games this past season Buss recorded 21 points for the Jacks. A handful of picks accompany Buss to the Black Hawks.
You can watch David and other players in the Lumberjacks organization skate at Main Camp this week starting on Sunday, June 11th. All-star games are Tuesday night at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Trinity Health Arena.
