Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC today announced that two of its players have received international call-ups: Luis Diaz and Eloy Room. Diaz is slated to join Costa Rica for a pair of Concacaf Nations League group stage matches against Curacao and Haiti. Room is scheduled to join Curacao ahead of a Concacaf Nations League group stage match against Costa Rica.
The announcement brings the number of Crew SC players receiving senior National Team call-ups in the upcoming window to four as the Club previously announced U.S. Men's National Team call-ups for midfielder Wil Trapp and forward Gyasi Zardes.
Costa Rica travels to face Curacao at Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curacao on Thursday, November 14, before hosting Haiti at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa in San Jose, Costa Rica on Sunday, November 17. Both Costa Rica and Curacao are in League A, Group B of the Concacaf Nations League alongside Haiti. Currently, Curacao is in first place with five points, followed by Costa Rica (two points) in second place and Haiti in third place (two points). The group winners from League A will advance to the Knockout Round, where a semifinal and final will be played to crown the 2019-2020 Concacaf Nations League champion.
Luis Diaz has earned two caps with the Costa Rica National Team since making his debut as a substitute earlier this year in a friendly against Uruguay (September 6). Diaz earned his second cap in a Concacaf Nations League group stage match last month against Curacao (October 13). In 2019, Diaz made 13 regular-season appearances (nine starts) for Crew SC, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
Eloy Room has earned 33 caps with the Curacao National Team, posting 11 shutouts. The goalkeeper made his debut with Curacao in 2015, starting and recording a shutout in a Concacaf World Cup Qualifier against Cuba on June 6. Most recently, Room started for Curacao in a Concacaf Nations League group stage match last month against Costa Rica (October 14), securing a clean sheet. In 2019, Room made 12 regular-season appearances (all starts) for the Crew, making 33 saves and registering one shutout.
Crew SC's current roster features seven players that have received a senior National Team call-up in the last 12 months: Harrison Afful, Luis Diaz, Waylon Francis, Jonathan Mensah, Eloy Room, Wil Trapp and Gyasi Zardes.
