LOUISVILLE, KY (February 25, 2011) - The Louisville Lightning made the most of their season home finale Friday night, rolling over the Ohio Vortex 13-6. The victory completed Louisville's sweep of Ohio on the season, and the Lightning earned their seventh win of the season.

Louisville completed the home session of the 2010-2011 schedule with an impressive 13-6 win over the Ohio Vortex Friday night. Louisville scored just 33 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead when Simon Bird set up Lee Weyland for the goal. Three minutes later, Louisville jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Chad Hagerty assisted Ross Hopkins on an impressive goal. The Simon Bird-to-Lee Weyland combination would strike again with just under ten minutes left, and Louisville opened up a 3-0 advantage early on. John Michael Hayden would put the Lightning up 4-0 before Ohio's Tyler Johnston would score a shorthanded goal with just over a minute left to get the Vortex on the board.

The second quarter would start much like the first, with Louisville's Simon Bird scoring three minutes into the second frame to put the home side up 5-1. Ohio's Steve Gillespie would score less than a minute later to make it 5-2, but Louisville would put their foot on the gas once more. The Lightning would score three goals in a span of less than five minutes behind Darren Yeagle, John Michael Hayden, and Ross Hopkins, and Louisville would go up 8-2 just before the half.

With a comfortable lead, the Lightning let up a bit in the final period, allowing Ohio to creep back into the game. Louisville would jump out in front 13-3 first, however. Ross Hopkins would score the first goal of the second half just under five minutes in, then Chad Hagerty and Simon Bird would both score two goals each to put Louisville up 13-3.

The Vortex would score three straight goals in the fourth quarter, with Nate Yates once again leading the charge to make it interesting. With a 13-6 score late in the game, the Lightning defense held on to preserve the win in the final home game of the season.

"After last week's loss, we were able to regroup tonight," said Lightning coach Ted Nichols after the game. "We had to refocus and realize we still have two games left. There are still some positives left in the season, and we wanted to jump out early and just have fun tonight," Nichols said.
