Louisville Lightning News Release

The Louisville Lighting professional indoor soccer team will be holding a youth soccer clinic in partnership with the Wayside Christian Mission this Saturday, October 20, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Members of the media are invited to attend the event, which be held outside at the Hotel Louisville Downtown, located at 120 West Broadway. Several members of the Louisville Lightning team and staff will be in attendance to lead children in the Wayside program through a series of soccer related exercises and games.

Saturday's clinic is part of a series of community outreach events leading up to the Lightning's first home game on Friday November 18. Lightning players will provide soccer instruction and games to 20-30 kids of all ages during the free two hour clinic on Saturday. This event will provide young people who would not typically be able to attend Lightning soccer games or camps with an opportunity to learn soccer fundamentals while receiving autographs, pictures, and advice from professional athletes.

"I am looking forward to the Louisville Lightning's soccer clinic this Saturday," said Wayside Christian Mission Chaplain, Michael Blunk. "It is no secret that professional athletes are role models and I am certain the Lightning players will live up to the expectations of our kids! Besides learning the finer points of soccer, I want to see our kids engaging in the kind of teamwork and perseverance that professional athletes demonstrate on the playing field. Established in 1957, the Wayside Christian Mission offers temporary relief services to Louisville community members. Among their many programs, Wayside Christian Mission provides emergency shelter, temporary and transitional housing, Chapel services, and educational classes. The Lightning will be partnering with Wayside throughout the 2011 season as part of the team's "Strike the City" campaign to positively impact the lives of Louisville citizens.
