Louisville Lightning News Release
Wayne Estopinal and Ted Nichols have been exploring the idea of bringing professional soccer to Louisville for the last several years. As a matter of fact, they've done more than explore. They have researched their options. They have investigated the landscape. They have invested their resources. They have considered all conceivable angles. They have discovered a possibility. They have created a strategy. And now they have executed the strategy.
The owners of Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club announced the launch of the Louisville Lightning Professional Indoor Soccer Team on September 15, 2009. The event was held at 7:00 inside the Mockingbird facility and was attended by WHAS 11, WAVE 3, the Courier-Journal, and around 50 Louisville business people and soccer enthusiasts.
At the news conference, Estopinal explained that the Lightning name is a tribute to the Louisville Thunder, our city's former professional indoor soccer team from 1984-87.
The Lightning announced that its first sponsors include Bob Hook Chevrolet, Adidas, and Quantum Graphix. They also announced an affiliation with the Austin Aztex of the United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1) Full stories on our sponsors and our partnership with the Aztecs are coming soon to our website.
