September 28, 2011 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Louisville Lightning News Release
The Louisville Lightning Professional Indoor Soccer team hosted its third successful open tryouts in September and recently announced the list of players invited to preseason training. Nearly 50 soccer players representing states including Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Florida, and South Carolina were in attendance over the two week trial. Sixteen new players are being added to compliment the veterans from last season. Promising new candidates include players such as former University of Louisville standouts, JT Murray, Charlie Campbell, and Luis Macheco.
Campbell, recently helped the Lightning's USL Pro Affiliate team, Orlando City, win the 2011 Championship in early September. Several other players boast experience with teams in the Professional Development League (PDL), including Corey Maret, Brett Gregory, and Tairov Kyamrah.
Two names in particular will add some serious indoor soccer experience to the Lightning's preseason camp. Garrett Buck previously played for the three-time defending champions of the PASL's Eastern Division, the Cincinnati Kings. Patrick O'Brien will also be flying into Louisville later this week to join the team after playing for the Shamrock Rovers in Ireland. O'Brien was with the Detroit Ignition and Orlando Sharks of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) during the 2007-2008 season.
Fourteen veterans will rejoin the Lightning to attempt another run at the PASL championship. Starting goalkeeper, Frank Peabody, returns in net. Adam Boyer, Jonathon Kincheloe, Lee Weyland, Ryan McDonald, and Tommy Clines will bring a wealth of experience to the backline. Midfielders include Othaniel Yanez, Ross Hopkins, Scott Stockum, and Darren Yeagle. Forwards wearing the black and yellow again this year will be Simon Bird, David Horne, and Nick Judah.
Associate Head Coach, Scott Budnick had this to say about the open tryouts, "[This year was] very productive for us. I was able to evaluate several players from last year's team which was very helpful for me. We also identified a handful of new players we've invited back for another look. Training was spirited. On the whole, this is a good first step."
A full list of selected players can be found on the Louisville Lightning web site at www.louisvillelightning.com. The Louisville Lightning's third season kicks off November 4, 2011 and will run through February, 2012.
Affordable ticket packages can be found on the team's web site. The full season schedule will be released by the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) office within the week.
