Louisville Lightning Coaches Reunite for Start of Season Three
September 3, 2011 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Louisville Lightning News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY --The Louisville Lightning Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) team announced Friday morning it will welcome back first year head coach, Scott Budnick, and second year head coach, Ted Nichols, to the 2011-2012 coaching staff. The announcement came shortly after a last minute resignation from Kyt Selaidopoulos, previously slated to coach the upcoming season.
In a statement released on the Louisville Lightning web site, Selaidopoulos says "This is a family matter and something I have to do. I know that the organization has very strong and capable leadership, and I wish them continued success on and off the field."
Under the leadership of team owners, Wayne Estopinal and Ted Nichols, the Lightning experienced tremendous success during their first two seasons in the PASL. The team has an all-time record of 21 wins and 13 losses, and hosted the storied San Diego Sockers team in the finals of the US Professional Arena League Open Cup in 2010. According to Lightning ownership, the 2011-2012 full season schedule will be announced next week, featuring more games, promotions, and fan interaction than seen in previous years.
Team and Club Owner, Wayne Estopinal, stated, "It is unfortunate that Kyt's personal matters do not allow him to be part of our organization. Having Scott Budnick and Ted Nichols to lead the third campaign of our already entertaining and competitive professional team is perfect. We expect an exciting brand of soccer this year, one that the Louisville soccer community will support and cheer on to a PASL Championship."
According to Associate Head Coach Ted Nichols, "I am very excited and looking forward to working with Scott. He was someone I could rely on last year after the games and was a great positive for me throughout the season. Our number one priority is to provide a top professional culture within the training sessions on a weekly basis. The rest should take care of itself."
Nichols will combine experience with Head Coach Scott Budnick, who was honored as the 2009-2010 PASL Coach of the Year, to oversee all aspects of the on-field development for the Lightning in year three. "We will make every effort to improve on the club's past success as we focus on this season's journey," states Budnick. "I would like to also thank the Lightning fans for their overwhelming support and look forward to seeing them again soon."
Open tryouts for the Louisville Lightning professional and reserve teams will be hosted on September 17 and 18. The full team will report for practice on October 3. The Lightning will begin their quest for first place in the PASL on November 4, with playoffs set for March, 2012.
