Louisville Lightning News Release
Playing to a record-breaking attendance of 1047, the Louisville Lightning, of the Professional Arena Soccer League, defeats the St. Louis Illusion 8-1 at the Mockingbird Valley Soccer Arena.
Meeting for the third time this season, the Louisville Lightning and St. Louis Illusion battled it out for the No. 2 spot in the PASL-Pro standings.
It was a slow-paced first-quarter as each team explored the other's offense - both goalies screaming at their team to find accurate field position.
The Lightning's defense played a flawless first-half; Frank Peabody, Lightning goalie and Mockingbird Valley's general manager, put on a defensive clinic as his six saves prevented the Illusion from having any first-half goals.
Louisville's star midfielder Safet Kovacevic scored three of the four first-half goals; giving Kovacevic a hat trick and a 4-0 Lightning lead going into the second half.
The Lightning's defense would not give in to St. Louis's offensive pressure, while Peabody continued to show St. Louis why he was the Budweiser Defensive Player of the Week by adding another six saves to the game's résumé. Peabody owes his immaculate game to his teammates. "I think tonight was honestly a team effort," said Peabody. "The guys in front of me did a great job by moving the ball well."
Louisville displayed an unselfish second-half as four different Lightning players scored the team's final goals Their win tonight gives Louisville an overall record of 10-5 on the season.
