Louisville City Hosts Charleston in Eastern Conference Semifinal Match

Louisville City FC vs. the Charleston Battery

Louisville, KY (October 1, 2015) - With a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals on the line, Louisville City FC plays host to the Charleston Battery in the clubs first ever USL Playoff match. The 7:30 PM kickoff on Saturday at Louisville Slugger Field will mark the third meeting between these two clubs who finished second and third in the East this season.
Louisville and Charleston split the two matches this season. Louisville took a 3-1 win on August 22 at Slugger Field behind a Matt Fondy brace. The Battery flipped the script in Charleston on September 12 by scoring twice in the second half in a 2-0 win.
With a second place finish in the regular season, Louisville City FC earned a first round bye in the playoffs, giving them last weekend off. The club finished with a 14-8-6 record, totaling 48 points. They scored a league best 55 goals, led by a league record setting 22 goals from captain Matt Fondy. Right back, Bryan Burke, led the league in assists with 10.
Charleston knocked off six-seeded Richmond last Saturday at MUSC Health Stadium in dramatic fashion. The match went into extra time with neither team able to find the back of the net in the 90 minutes of regulation. Less than a minute into extra time Richmond grabbed the 1-0 lead on an own-goal courtesy of Taylor Mueller. With hopes dwindling in the second period of extra time, Charleston's leading scorer, Dane Kelly planted a header past the Richmond keeper to level the match at one.
The Battery would net the winner moments later when Forrest Lasso's header hit the top left corner of the net.
Navion Boyd was sent off in extra time for Charleston, as was Ricardo Garbanzo. Both will have to sit out the match in Louisville on Saturday.
Tickets for the match are still available and can be purchased by visiting LouisvilleCityFC.com/playoffs. The winner of the match will face the winner of the Rochester Rhinos versus New York Red Bulls II match on October 10.
