Charleston Oktoberfest Cancelled Due to Joaquin Forecast

Charleston Battery News Release
CHARLESTON - The annual Charleston Oktoberfest celebration scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4, at MUSC Health Stadium has been cancelled due to the weather forecast associated with Hurricane Joaquin, the Charleston Battery announced Thursday afternoon.
The event - a family-friendly fixture on the city's social calendar since 2004 - combines elements of a traditional German Volksfest with many of the features of a community picnic.
Battery staff considered several options, but ultimately decided that if attendees were unable to enjoy being on the stadium field, it simply wouldn't be the same event. With up to a foot of rain forecast over the weekend, the grass field would have been off-limits to Oktoberfest participants regardless of the weather conditions during the event.
"Very difficult decision, but with so many models indicating the potential for flooding in the Lowcountry, we decided it was the proper thing to do," said Andrew Bell, Battery president.
People who have already purchased tickets to the event can have their money refunded by calling the Battery ticket office at 843.971.4625.
The Charleston Battery soccer team departs for Louisville before sunrise Friday morning to prepare for a USL playoff showdown with Louisville City FC. The Eastern Conference Semifinal will be webcast via the USL YouTube channel starting at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
