Louisiana Goaltender Riley Gill Named Easton Player of the Week

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (January 15, 2013) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced goaltender Riley Gill of the Louisiana IceGators is the Easton Player of the Week for January 7-13. This marks the second time Gill has won the award this season, having been named Player of the Week for October 26-28.

Gill went 3-0 with a 0.62 goals against average and .982 save percentage as the IceGators took over first place in the standings. Gill stopped 108 of 110 shots and became the first player in SPHL history to post two 1-0 wins in the same season.

On Tuesday, the native of Northfield, Minnesota stopped all 38 RiverKings' shots as the IceGators defeated Mississippi 1-0 in a shootout. Gill came back on Friday with a 29-save performance as Louisiana won their second-consecutive shootout, a 3-2 decision over Pensacola. Gill's best performance of the week came on Saturday as Louisiana topped Huntsville 1-0 in overtime. He stopped all 41 Havoc shots, including 24 in the first period, as he ran his winning streak to seven games.

A four-year standout at Western Michigan University, Gill finished his collegiate career with the highest save percentage (0.915), most shutouts (8) and second-best goals against average (2.94) in school history. He also holds the single-season school record for save percentage (0.923), set during his senior year. Gill currently leads SPHL goaltenders in wins (17), shutouts (3) and shootout wins (4) and is third in the league with a 2.31 goals against average and 0.924 save percentage.
