Los Angeles' Ishmael Smith Signs with Orlando Magic

NEW YORK, Feb. 2 2012 ? The Orlando Magic today signed guard Ishmael Smith of the Los Angeles D-Fenders for the 18th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2011-12 NBA Development League season. Smith joins 100 NBA players with NBA D-League experience currently on 2011-12 rosters.

Smith (6-0, 175, Wake Forest) appeared in six games for the Golden State Warriors this season, averaging 4.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 10.5 minutes. He scored a season-high 11 points in a 92-78 win over the New York Knicks on Dec. 28 before being waived by the Warriors on Jan. 13. He joined the L.A D-fenders yesterday, and has yet to see NBA D-League action this season.

Last season, Smith was twice assigned from the Houston Rockets to their NBA D-League affiliate Rio Grande Valley Vipers, where he played in eight games and averaged 12.5 points and 7.9 assists in 32.9 minutes.

Smith is expected to join the Magic today and be available tomorrow when the team hosts the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Amway Center.
