Northern Kentucky River Monsters News Release
CANTON, OHIO - Jared Lorenzen tied his own Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) record with nine touchdown passes as the Northern Kentucky River Monsters stayed atop of the UIFL standings with the 78-55 victory Saturday at the Canton Civic Center. (Game Stats)
Northern Kentucky used a quick strike offense, posting scoring drives of two plays or less for six of its 11 touchdowns.
Ironically, Lorenzen set the record two weeks ago against the same Canton Cougars. He has thrown for 24 touchdowns in three games against Canton.
After scoring the last touchdown of the first half to break the 35-35 tie, the River Monsters broke the game open by outscoring Canton 21-7 in the third quarter. Three different players - Willie Idlette, Harry Lewis and Maurice Douse - recorded touchdowns in the quarter.
The defense came up with a fourth-down stop and a blocked field goal in the pivotal third stanza.
Lewis pulled down a team-high seven catches for 90 yards and four touchdowns, while Ricardo Lenhart had a team-high 95 yards on five catches with three touchdowns. Idlette added two touchdowns for the River Monsters.
Douse continues to rack up all-purpose yardage with 138 yards, thanks to 108 on kickoffs.
Defensively, Jon D'Angelo recorded a team-high seven tackles with one pass break-up, while Santino Turnbow and Thomas McKenzie each had four tackles and a sack.
Northern Kentucky (6-1) gets an opportunity to avenge its lone loss of the season when Eastern Kentucky (4-3) visits the Bank of Kentucky Center 7:30 p.m. Saturday April 16. The Drillers posted the 60-33 victory on March 12 at the Eastern Kentucky Center.
