Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 8, 2011) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced signing of pitcher Mike Loree. The righty starter returns to Long Island for his second stint with the team in 2011.
"We are very happy to have Mike back on our roster," says Ducks' manager Kevin Baez. "He has been a tremendous part of our team this season."
Loree returns to the Ducks after pitching with the Double-A Altoona Curve in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. In four games, he posted a miniscule 1.17 ERA and struck out 11 batters in 7.2 innings pitched. It was the first time Loree reached the Double-A level in his five-year career.
Prior to joining Altoona, the 26-year-old was the Atlantic League's most dominant pitcher this season. The right-hander led the Atlantic League in all three Triple Crown categories, setting the pace in wins (14), earned run average (1.79), and strikeouts (115). He went 14-3 in his 22 appearances (17 starts) and held opponents to a .222 batting average in 110 and two-thirds innings pitched. The New Jersey native also set a Ducks franchise record for wins in a single season with 14, surpassing the previous mark of 13 held by Troy Cate in 2009.
In a corresponding roster move, the Ducks placed pitcher Ehren Wassermann on the inactive list.
