
Longhorns Hook Jags To Earn Award

St. Louis - October 24, 2006 -The high school football season is winding down and that means that across Saint Louis, district play began last week. At one area school in Chesterfield, Missouri, Friday night, the Longhorns hooked the Jaguars as fans saw shades of Quarterback Yundra Rowsely, Running Back Brett Iba, and Linebacker Chad Cooper, who comprised their 1998 District and Sectional Championship squad.
With a 43-36 win over the Seckman Jaguars, the Parkway West Longhorns earned the honor of Ragefootball.com's Week 9 Team of the Week. The Longhorns moved to (3-2) in the Suburban South Conference and (6-2) overall. Quarterback Blaine Gabbert completed eight of 18 passes for 129 yards, two td's, and one interception. Senior Running Back Steve May carried the ball 18 times picking up 201 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Marc Verilli had an interception for the Longhorns, while Shane Kirkpatrick recovered a fumble and Michael Jolly had a sack. With two games left in the schedule, Gabbert stands at 1,144 yards passing, 14 passing td's and seven interceptions. Rowsley finished the 1998 season with 793 yards passing. The Longhorns will travel to Jackson this week, before ending the regular season at home on November 3 against rival Eureka.
Senior Antonio Tullock of Festus takes home this week's Offensive Player of the Week honor, carrying the ball 21 times for 164 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Tigers to a 28-13 win over the North County Raiders. After winning their first six games the Tigers fell to Potosi two weeks ago. The bounce back win against North County will give the Tigers some steam heading into this weeks game against Farmington who shares the same (5-0) and (7-1) record.
The Defensive Player of the Week is Senior Paul Lewis of Westminster who tallied three sacks in the Wildcats's 24-17 win over the MICDS Rams who produced last weeks's Defensive player John Engler. This Saturday, the Wildcats will visit undefeated John Burroughs.
