DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Shed Long was named the Florida State League Player of the Month for May by Minor League Baseball Tuesday morning. It's the latest honor for Long, who has been named an FSL Player of the Week, All-Star, and team Player of the Month within the past week.
Long hit .339 with five home runs and 14 RBI in 27 games during May. He had 12 walks, 12 extra-base hits, and an OPS of 1.000. Long's .339 average was the third best mark in the FSL for the month. Additionally, the infielder recorded 14 multi-hit games, reaching three hits five times, including four straight games against Bradenton in the middle of the month.
Long ranks seventh in the FSL for batting average (.311), third in home runs (11) and hits (66), fifth in slugging percentage (.538) and extra-base hits (25) and second in total bases (114) for the season. He leads the team in batting average, while ranking second in home runs and RBI.
Long will be one of five Tortugas representing Daytona at the 2017 FSL All-Star game in Lakeland on June 17th.
The first place Tortugas continue their homestand Tuesday night with the Dunedin Blue Jays. Having taken the first three games of the series, the Tortugas will aim for the sweep tonight at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
