Long Island Rough Riders News Release

(Plainview, N.Y., June 18, 2004) – On a hot sticky night, the Long Island Rough Riders could not stop their loosing streak at Harrisburg, losing against the City Islanders 3-0. The difference in the game was that Harrisburg took advantage of their scoring opportunities where as Long Island could not.

Harrisburg opened the scoring in the 31st minute. After a foul Matt Tanzini stepped up to hit a 25-yard free kick from the left-hand side of the box. His shot deflected off the wall and was redirected past Long Island goalkeeper Daniel Sirota for a 1-0 Harrisburg lead. Long Island looked to push the ball forward but could not create a dangerous situation for a final shot on goal.

Going into the second half Long Island seemed to increase the intensity, outshooting Harrisburg 13 to 8. But in the 58th minute Islander Potteiger put Donnelly through for a one-on-one situation with the Long Island keeper, which he converted to make the score 2-0.

Finally in the 63rd minute Guastaferro forced Sirota to come out of his goal, caught him off the line, and lofted the ball over him into the net.

The Rough Riders now travel further West to face the league-leading Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Kick-off on Sunday, June 20th, is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The Rough Riders return for their next home game on June 26th to face the New Hampshire Phantoms.
