Long Island Rough Riders News Release
Plainview, NY; July 13, 2005 - The Long Island Rough Riders will begin their push towards the playoffs when they take on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at 7:30 PM on Saturday, July 16th at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, NY.
Fans are also invited to come out before the Rough Riders action that day to watch the New York Rovers face Islip in the Long Island Soccer Football League Championships at 4:30 PM.
The soccer-filled evening is sponsored by Modell's Sporting Goods. In honor of Modell's Night, the first 2,000 fans will receive a Modell's stamped backpack.
The sixth place Rough Riders are coming off a 5-2 victory over the New Hampshire Phantoms on July 6th. After Long Island's impressive victory, Gary Sullivan and Moussa Sy were named to the Week 12 USL Team of the Week, with Sy given the honor of Player of the Week for the second time this season. Sullivan was named to the team for an assist and outstanding play against the Phantoms, while Sy was recognized for his third multi-goal performance of the season, a two-goal contribution during the Rough Riders victory.
With a ten-day break between games, the team has gotten much needed rest and added a few new faces. Defender Ricardo Blanchard, a member of the Rough Riders in 1996, 1999-2000 and 2004, has resigned with the team. In addition, defender Laurence Piturro, a Rough Rider from 1995-2001 and Blanchard's teammate for three years, has rejoined the Rough Riders after a stint with the Westchester Flames of the USL Premier Development League. Also coming on board is Aboubacar "Bouba" Camara, a forward who played with the Westchester Flames in 2004, as well as with Blanchard and Piturro during the 2000 Rough Riders season. All three will be available to see action on Saturday.
Tickets are still available for this Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. $10 for adults, $8 for children ages 5-18, and $6 for groups of 12 or more. For more information, visit our web site at www.liroughriders.com or call (516) 622-3900.
