Long Island Rough Riders News Release
Head Coach Ronan Wiseman knows a thing or two about winning. As a former Rough Rider and US Open Cup Champion he will only be too aware of the huge threat the Ocean City Barons present to both his and the club's reputation should they lose.
As the Rough Riders have shown themselves in recent years (beating the MetroStars and the Revolution),the underdog always has a chance, and the Barons, having been robbed of a place in the third round last season, will be looking to make amends at the Rough Riders expense.
Sources close to the Barons explained that this fixture represents the biggest game in their calendar: 'When a big time club like the Rough Riders comes to town, you can expect a bumper crowd. They can also expect a 'warm' welcome from our passionate fans.'
The Rough Riders can also anticipate a well prepared and organized Ocean City Barons side. LI Rough Riders.Com has learned that the Barons have sent scouts to our last 3 games and are well versed on the ins and outs of all the Rough Riders roster.
The Ocean City Barons are capable of scoring from all over the field. Byron Carmichael and Ruben Mingo are proven goal scorers. Carmichael has 5 goals in the last 6 games and Mingo was the MVP of the PDL in 2004.
Naturally, 1991 US Open Cup Winner Coach Wiseman refuses to be drawn into making any assumptions about The Barons. ' We certainly will not be taking anything for granted against a side of the caliber of Ocean City. They are an impressive team and compare favorably against most USL Div 2 sides. We will be looking to play our game. Consistency is what we are looking for. The whole team fully understands progression in the US Open Cup is a good feather in the cap.'
Kick Off June 29th, 7:30 PM at Carey Stadium, South New Jersey
Rough Riders superstar Moussa Sy is already racking up the accolades from last Saturday's four-goal effort against the Northern Virginia Royals. Earlier today, Sy was named the Co-Player of the Week by BigAppleSoccer.com with Charles Altcheck of the Westchester Flames.
Sy scored all four of the Rough Riders' goals in their 4-1 victory over the Northern Virginia Royals at Stony Brook University on June 25th. This award would be Sy's second time receiving the distinction this season.
During the week of May 29th, Sy was given the honor based on his two-goal performance in a victory over the Wilmington Hammerheads. He is also expected to be named to the USL Team of the Week.
