Long Island Rough Riders Name Ronan Wiseman as Head Coach

Plainview, NY (February 25, 2004) – The Long Island Rough Riders announced today that they have selected Ronan Wiseman as the new Head Coach of the USL franchise. Wiseman becomes only the third Head Coach in franchise history.

A Long Island soccer fixture, he holds a USSF “A” coaching license and was on the coaching staff of Long Island University at C. W. Post in 1991 and Assistant Coach at Adelphi University for the past four years. Wiseman returns to the Rough Riders as Head Coach, having played for the club from 1998 to 2001.

“Ronan was a tremendous player for the Rough Riders and a great ambassador for the club in the community,” said Rough Riders General Manager Jim Kilmeade. “He’s a real student of the game and a respected member of the Rough Riders family since 1998. “I’m confident Ronan will continue the winning tradition of the professional team while providing leadership for our Super Y League Junior Rough Riders program and the entire Long Island soccer community”.

Ronan began his professional playing career in 1994 with the New York Fever (USISL). He continued his professional playing career in Sweden with BK Forward and his native country, Ireland with Dundalk FC.

“I am proud to have been given the opportunity to be Head Coach of the Rough Riders” said Ronan Wiseman. “I came to Long Island in 1985 and have worked with countless youth soccer players though camps and team training. I feel very much in touch with the Long Island youth soccer community and I look forward to working toward a third national championship.”

Wiseman came to the USA in 1985 to pursue his education at Adelphi University. While earning his B.A. in Finance, he also played four years for the “Panthers”. He went on to earn his Masters Degree in Banking & Money Management through the Adelphi School of Business.

Originally form Dundalk, Ireland, Wiseman now resides in Westbury, New York.
