Long Island Rough Riders News Release
Plainview, NYâ For more than 80 minutes it looked like a draw, but two late goals brought the Rough Riders the second loss this weekend. In a changing strategy, the Rough Riders began the game in a 4-5-1 formation. Dropping a man into midfield seemed to neutralize the Pittsburgh attack.
The turning point in the match was in the 65th minute when Rough Riders midfielder Ricky Blanchard received a red card for hard tackle. The man advantage gave Pittsburgh more opportunities to move the ball around Long Island's half of the field.
Pittsburgh ultimately used the man advantage to score in the 83rd minute. Pittsburgh's Gary Depalma crossed the ball from the right side to Said Ali, who was able to turn and send the scoring shot from 10 yards out past Long Island goalkeeper Dan Sirota.
Three minutes later Ali sent a ball through the Long Island defense to Granit Caushaj, who broke in on the goalkeeper one-on-one. Caushaj was able to dribble around Sirota to nock the ball into the empty net.
The Rough Riders return home this weekend to face the New Hampshire Phantoms on Saturday, June 26th. Game-time is at 7:30 pm. All home games are played at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. Contact the Long Island Rough Riders office at 516-671-1585 for team and ticket information.
