Orange County Flyers News Release
Sportsmanship was on display Wednesday night at Blair Field in Long Beach as the Long Beach Armada came from behind twice to beat the Orange County Flyers 5-4 to tie the first round of the playoffs at one game a piece.
The two teams were bickering back and forth all night including one bench clearing incident and one player even was ejected as emotions ran high.
But when Pat Breen ran head first into the center field wall on the game ending play, the Long Beach Armada's entire roster stopped the celebration to check on the Flyer's center fielder.
The Orange County Flyers had a three run lead after five but watched the game slip away as the Long Beach Armada used Norm Hutchins' walkoff inside the park home run to tie the series at one game a piece.
Orange County controlled the game for almost the entirety of it but a misplayed fly ball in the sixth scored two runs and a balk allowed the runner to score from third to tie the game.
The Flyers grabbed the lead back in the eleventh as Josh Arhart's sacrifice fly scored Jeff LaRue to give Orange County the lead.
The Flyers brought in Dane De La Rosa but it was all for naught as the Armada finished the comeback.
The series now shifts back to Goodwin Field Friday night at 7:05 with Matt Durkin and Ryan Claypool set to start.
