Chicago Bandits News Release

The Chicago Bandits and Washington Glory smashed out five combined home runs and the Glory defeated Chicago 6-3 in the first of a four game series at the Westfield Sports Complex in National Pro Fastpitch action Friday night.

The biggest shot came when Washington's (15-6) Catalina Morris broke a 2-all tie with a three run homer in the bottom of the third inning off of relief pitcher Amanda Freed (0-1). It gave the Glory a 5-2 lead that the team would not relinquish. Desiree Serrano (5-3) pitched a complete game for Washington with 14 strikeouts.

Trailing 6-3 in the top of the seventh inning, the Bandits (9-8) had the tying run at the plate with Stacy May and Rachel Folden on base with one out. Jamie Clark struck out and Nicole Trimboli flied out to end the game.

Kristina Thorson got the start for the Bandits and was relieved by Freed after two innings of work with the score 2-all. Freed gave up three runs and left the game after the fourth inning to give way to rookie Tracie Adix. Washington's Courtney Bures added her league leading seventh home run of the season to increase the Glory's lead to 6-2 in the fifth inning off of Adix.

The Washington Glory began the scoring in the first inning when Oli Keohohou singled to score Nicole Barber, who reached base when she was hit by a Thorson pitch.

The power of Chicago's lineup paid huge dividends when Rachel Folden and Jamie Clark hit back-to-back solo home runs and the Bandits took the lead 2-1 in the top of the second inning. But the Glory answered right back with a smash of its own. Sarah Larquier knotted the game at 2-all with her fifth home run of the season.

Stacy May recorded a lead off walk in the third inning for Chicago, but she was caught stealing and the following pitch, first baseman Samantha Findlay stuck out to each the Bandits threat.

Chicago's final run came with the bases loaded. Laura Harms singled to score Rachel Folden.

Chicago and Washington will continue their series with game two Saturday night at 6:05 central time back at the Westfield Sports Complex. Fans can tune into the game through www.allinbroadcasting.com.
