London Lightning Inaugural Season Commences

Tomorrow, Thursday, November 3rd, the city of London adds a vibrant new colour to its sporting landscape. The London Lightning look to prove that they are a force of nature in the brand new National Basketball League of Canada.

The tip-off on the stunning new court at the John Labatt Centre is 7 pm, but truly this marks the beginning of a new era in pro Canadian sports.

The opponent will be the strong Halifax Rainmen. They feature former NBA talent at two roster spots (Rodney Buford and Eddie Robinson) that only enhances their deep backcourt. Certainly, they will look to dampen the spirits of local fans and supporters on this historic night.

That will not be an easy task.

Team owner Vito Frija has gone to great lengths to ensure that the lightning hit the court running in every facet. From the court, to the bold uniforms, to the roster, The message is clear: The Lightning mean business.

Former NBA all-star Michael Ray Richardson is the head coach who's forecast for the season is one thing - wins. If the pre-season is any indication, London will be athletic, able to score, and willing to play defence.

On November 3rd, the Lightning look to strike their foothold in the London sporting map. The NBL Canada has been warned.

The London Lightning are part of the new National Basketball League of Canada along with the Saint John Mill Rats, Halifax Rainmen, Quebec Kebs, Moncton Miracles, Summerside Storm and Oshawa Power. Each team is required to have two Canadian players on their active roster at all times this season.
