La Crosse Loggers News Release
LA CROSSE, WI - The La Crosse Loggers baseball club made three significant additions to their ever-growing 2013 roster today when team officials announced the signings of Kayden Porter (North Carolina), Nick Piscotty (Duke) and Austin Clark (Georgia College).
North Carolina's Kayden Porter is one of the top two-way freshman talents in all of the country. The 2012 Utah Player of the Year stands at 6-5, 240 pounds with a fastball that reaches the mid-90's on the mound and possesses impressive power at the plate. Porter was rated as the 47th best freshman prospect in the nation by Perfect Game and Baseball America tabbed him as the 88th best freshman entering this 2013 season. The Spanish Fork, UT native was a 2012 Rawlings 2nd team high school all-American and a 2011 Perfect Game underclass 1st team all- American. Porter's North Carolina Tar Heels were ranked as the #1 team in the country in Baseball America's pre-season poll that was recently released.
Joining Porter out of the ACC will be right-handed pitcher Nick Piscotty from Duke. The 6-3, 200 pound sophomore hails from a baseball family in Pleasanton, Calif. Nick, himself, was selected in the 32nd round of the 2011 MLB draft by the Kansas City Royals before electing to pursue his collegiate career at Duke and his older brother, Stephen, was a standout at Stanford before being selected in the first round of the 2012 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. The hard-throwing right-hander saw action out of the bullpen and as a starter for Duke during his freshman campaign in 2012, posting an 0-2 record with one save while striking out 22 batters in 29.1 innings pitched.
Providing a different look out of the Loggers and Georgia College bullpen this season will be right- handed, submarine pitcher Austin Clark. Clark, now a sophomore at Georgia College, enjoyed a very successful freshman season at Triton Junior College (Ill.) in 2012 when he lead his club with a 1.24 ERA over 15 appearances and 29 innings pitched out of their bullpen. The Whitesburg, Ga. native, and former wrestling state champion, is expected to be a go-to guy in the Georgia College bullpen and will be looked upon to fill the role of former Logger side-winders Jacob Dorris and Michael Schum.
Porter, Piscotty, Clark and the rest of the Loggers will open their 2013 campaign on May 29 when they travel to Battle Creek, Mich. to take on the Bombers. The 2013 home opener is set for Sunday, June 2 when the Loggers play host to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in a 5:05 p.m. affair at The Lumberyard. Season tickets are on sale now at the Loggers ticket office (1225 Caledonia Street, La Crosse) or by calling 608-796-9553. Fan can also find more ticket information at www.lacrosseloggers.com.
