New York Lizards News Release

The Long Island Lizards Lizards (6-5) can clinch a playoff berth (and the #2 or #3 seed) with a victory against Rochester on Saturday. If Rochester defeats Long Island on Saturday, Long Island will finish out of the playoffs regardless of any other games.

If the Lizards are in the playoffs, they will most likely meet the Baltimore Bayhawks in the semi-finals. Baltimore and Long Island have played each other in all three league championship games (Lizards winning in 2001 and 2003). Only a New Jersey (1-10) victory over Baltimore in Week 12 would change the Lizards playoff matchup, with Long Island instead meeting Philadelphia or Rochester. There is no scenario where Long Island can play Boston in the semi-finals.

There are currently four teams tied for three playoff spots, however, Long Island is last on the chain of tiebreakers. The tiebreaker order and the standings are below:

1 Boston Cannons (8-3)
2 Rochester Rattlers (6-5)
3 Philadelphia Barrage (6-5)
4 Baltimore Bayhawks (6-5)
5 Long Island Lizards (6-5)
6 New Jersey Pride (1-10)

The 2004 New Balance Major League Lacrosse Championship Weekend is held at Boston University's Nickerson Field on August 20th and 22nd. The Lizards would play their semi-final game at 5:00 PM on Friday, with the #1 seed vs #4 seed semi-final being held at 8:00 PM. The Championship Game, which is televised live on ESPN2, is slated for 1:00 PM on Sunday.
