New York Lizards News Release

The Long Island Lizards (5-4) defeated the Baltimore Bayhawks (5-4), 17-16, in a must-win overtime thriller at Unitas Stadium on Saturday evening. Conor Denihan scored the game-winner 3:16 into overtime. However, the story was A.J. Haugen's heroics at the end of regulation. With the Lizards down 16-14 with one play left, Haugen scored his first career two-point goal with only 15 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

Haugen finished the goal with two goals (three points) and two assists. Denihan's overtime goal was his third of the game. Ken Garcia also had an amazing night, with a career-high four goals and one assist. Jay Jalbert (3G, 2A), Tim Goettelmann (1G), Kevin Finneran (1G), Corey Harned (1G) and Anthony Gilardi (1G) also scored.

Brian Dougherty was impressive as usual in goal, recording 20 saves in the win. Dougherty has recorded 20 or more saves in his last five starts.

The game was close throughout, with ties at 3-3 at the end of the first and 7-7 at halftime. Baltimore took an 11-10 lead into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was very physical, as the teams racked up seven penalty minutes in the period (14 minutes total).

The Lizards are now in the thick of the playoff race, where only three of the four remaining teams will advance. Long Island hosts the Powell brothers and the Rochester Rattlers next Friday at Mitchel Field.
