New York Lizards News Release
The Long Island Lizards beat the Boston Cannons by a score of 16-12, in front of 4,752 rowdy fans in the team's 2007 home opener at Mitchel Athletic Complex on Friday evening. Behind the goaltending of Nick Murtha, who held Boston's powerful offense scoreless in the second half, the Lizards outscored their division rivals 7-3 to break a 9-9 halftime tie. Stephen Berger was named Bud Light MVP for his five goal performance.
Murtha came in the second half, and with the game tied 9-9 was a brick wall in front of the Lizards cage. Boston was held to only one goal in the third quarter and three the entire second half.
Blake Miller scored three goals for Long Island, and Keith Cromwell, Adam Borcz and Austin Garrison each added two.
Long Island (1-0) hits the road next weekend when they meet the San Francisco Dragons.
