November 12, 2013 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
New York Lizards News Release

Just hours after the Lizards traded midfielder Stephen Peyser to the Ohio Machine, New York announces they have acquired MLL veteran Midfielder Matt Striebel and attackman Ned Crotty from the Rochester Rattlers. The Lizards give up a 2014 4th round Collegiate Draft Pick and 2014 6th round Supplemental Draft pick in exchange for Striebel. In exchange for Ned Crotty, the Lizards sent Grant Catalino, the third overall pick in the 2014 Collegiate Draft, and a first round pick in the 2015 Collegiate Draft to Rochester.

Striebel has been in the League since 2001, when he played for the Bridgeport Barrage. Striebel stayed with the Barrage until 2008, winning three Steinfeld Cup Championships with the team in 2004, 2006, and 2007. In 2009 Striebel went to Chicago, followed by Rochester in 2011. A four-time MLL All-Star, Striebel made all-star game appearance in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2011. He also was a member of Team USA in 2002, 2006, and 2010, wining gold in the World Games in 2002 and 2010.

Striebel leads the League in games played, making 150 appearances since his debut in 2001. In 2013 he ranked 7th in the League for 2-point goals scored, finding the back of the net seven times from behind the arc. Striebel also ranks 9th in the League for career points, with 348.

"This is a great trade for our organization," said Lizard's head coach Joe Spallina. "Playing with championship experience and pedigree of Matt is something we really lacked last season. We could not be more excited to have Matt wearing our uniform this season. We're looking for him to come in and be a great leader and example for our young core."

Ned Crotty began his career in Chicago, where he was selected first overall in the 2010 Collegiate Draft, and named the 2010 MLL Rookie of the Year. After one season in Chicago, Crotty was picked up by the Rattlers, where he played three successful seasons. In 2013, Crotty tallied 36 points, a team best, on 15 goals and 20 assists, and one 2-point goal. So far in his career, Crotty has played in 44 games, scoring 141 points on 70 goals, 70 assists, and one 2-point goal.

Crotty was a member of the 2011 MLL All-Star Team, 2010 Team USA, where he won a gold medal in the World Games, and is currently a member of the 2014 Team USA training Roster.

"Ned is one of the most dynamic players in Major League Lacrosse," said Spallina. "He is somebody who is not only a great individual player, but has the ability to make the players around him better and he will allow us to play a more team oriented game. To be able to add a player of Ned's quality to our lineup, I believe, brings our team to a different level."

Grant Catalino will return to Rochester, where he played his rookie season in 2011, after two seasons with the Lizards. In his three seasons in the League, Catalino has played in 24 games scoring 48 points on 35 goals, five 2-point goals and eight assists.

With the addition of Crotty, the Lizards now have three of the past four MLL Rookies of the Year on their roster (Crotty "" 2010, Gibson "" 2012, Pannell "" 2013). The Lizards also boast three of the past five Tewaaraton Award Winners (Seibald "" 2009, Crotty "" 2010, Pannell "" 2013).

Earlier today, the Lizards traded veteran midfielder Stephen Peyser to the Ohio Machine in exchange for midfielder John Austin and the 13th overall pick in the 2014 MLL Collegiate Draft. Austin, a 2012 graduate of the University of Delaware and Shoreham, NY native, did not play in any games with the Machine in 2013, but played in six games with the Hamilton Nationals, scoring seven points on three goals, three assists, and one 2-point goal. In 2012, Austin played in six games with the Nationals, scoring seven goals (3g, 2a, 1 2-ptg). Austin was drafted 48th overall by the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft.

In exchange for Austin, New York gives up Stephen Peyser, a Lizard since 2009. The 2008 Johns Hopkins graduate joined the Lizards in 2009 from the New Jersey Pride. In his five seasons in New York, Peyser played in 60 games, scoring a total of 114 points on 84 goals, 16 assists, and 14 2-point goals. Peyser was also a member of the 2011 MLL All-Star team, 2010 Team USA, and is currently a member of the 2014 Team USA Training Roster.
