Little Brother fills Big Brother\'s Shoes: Fuentes Replaces Fuentes
April 22, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Sioux Falls Storm News Release
The Sioux Falls Storm of the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) is pleased to announce the signing of former Utah State University (USU) quarterback, Jose Fuentes. Jose is the brother of Rich Fuentes, quarterback for the Storm who suffered a season ending Achilles tendon tear in the Lincoln game on April 16th.
Jose currently holds 19 passing records at USU including single-season records for pass completions (260) and touchdown passes (24). In a single game against Boise State University, Jose threw a total of 509 yards. Even more amazingly, Fuentes started in 31 consecutive games for USU and in his senior year, Jose threw for 3,268 yards.
Following his collegiate career, Fuentes was picked up by the Green Bay Packers and worked in their mini-camp. Jose also signed a free-agent contract to play for the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League, and the Central Valley Coyotes (Fresno, California) of the Arena Football League 2.
"We are extremely excited to have Jose here in Sioux Falls! When Rich went down with his injury, one of the first individuals Rich told us to call was his brother. We know Jose will have another âcoach in the corner' with Rich being here and will make the transition that much easier for us," says general manager, Colin Steen.
The next Storm home game will be on Saturday, May 1 when the Black Hills Red Dogs come to town. May 1 will be "College Night" where the first 1,500 fans through the door will receive a free Sioux Falls Storm touchdown towel. The game will be sponsored by Dakota Aggregate Resources. For more information please call the Storm office at 332-4225 or visit the team's website at www.siouxfalllsstorm.com.
