Lions to open Monday night
Published on February 22, 2007 under World Indoor Football League 2 (WIFL 2) News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. - Three teams, three opening games, three victories.
That's what Columbus Lions head coach Jason Gibson has a chance at Monday night when his team makes its World Indoor Football League debut against the Daytona Beach Thunder.
In 2005, Gibson's Raleigh Rebels, a travel team, upset the Canton Legends in the opening game of the American Indoor Football League. Last year, Gibson coached the Chattahoochee Valley Vipers to a 48-46 victory over the Thunder.
Streaks are nice, but Gibson's looking at the big picture.
"Opening night is good for morale, but I want to win the championship," Gibson. "That's what we're all in this for. The talent is there."
Augusta's Bubba Diggs is also looking to keep a streak alive - his second 2-0 start - when the Spartans travel to face the Osceola Ghostriders Saturday.
Both games will be audiocast on the WIFLInternetwork.
