Albany Firebirds News Release

ALBANY, NY – Following what seemed to be the busiest week so far this off-season for the Northeast Division Champions Albany Conquest, two of their current players were chosen to compete in the "Capital Region's Most Fit Male Athlete of 2003".

WR/LB Adriel Linyear (Lafayette/Shaker HS) and FB/LB Matt Vittengl (R.P.I./S. Glens Falls HS) are two of eight area athletes selected to be part of an on-line vote, culminating in three winners. The top three vote getters will be chosen to participate in the competition, which takes place from 3-5pm on Monday, March 24th.

The "Most Fit Male Athlete of 2003", will be chosen at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College, the sponsor of the event. The athletes will be judged in four categories: VO2 max, which measures aerobic capacity; flexibility, which refers to an individual's ability to move a joint through its entire range of motion; muscular endurance, which will be tested through curls and push ups; and body composition, which will be tested via the BOD POD, an advanced machine that achieves measurements through air displacements. Points will be awarded in each of the four categories to determine an overall winner.

Fans can vote by logging on to www.hvcc.edu and clicking on the "Most Fit Male Athlete of 2003" section of the front page. Each ballot will register three votes and the voting period will end Monday, March 10, at which point the three participants will be announced.
