Stockton Lightning News Release

BOISE, Idaho - WR Sale' Key caught seven passes for 112 receiving yards and a team-high three touchdown receptions, while the Stockton Lightning forced the Boise Burn into three fumbles as the Lightning emerged with a 57-33 victory over Boise in front of 4,765 at Qwest Arena on Saturday in week 9 of arenafootball2 play.

The Lightning, held without a walk-through until 12:30 p.m. MT today due to an arena changeover from a hockey game that was held the previous night, went 4-for-6 on fourth down conversions and posted their season-low point allowance on defense.

After Boise's game-opening score on Lee Marks' seven-yard run, the Lightning got on the board with James Newson's interception and 36-yard return for a touchdown. QB Bart Hendicks' one-yard keeper was matched by Stockton QB Evan Gray found B'Jay Jones in the right corner of the end-zone for an 11-yard strike on a fourth down conversion, putting the Lightning up 14-13 through one quarter.

Boise used a two-yard run by Cole Clasen to the left side with 10:33 left in the second quarter to go ahead 19-14, which was answered by the Lightning on a seven-yard touchdown reception by Key, who hauled in a fluttering pass in the middle of the endzone that was deflected off the line of scrimmage with 2:11 to go in the half.

The Burn's Casey Allen put up a 15-yard receiving score while fighting off DB Travis Seaton across the middle of the end zone to put Boise ahead 27-20 following a two-point conversion. Following one play from scrimmage, kicker Alex Walls drilled a career-long 49-yard field goal as time expired, closing the gap to 27-23 at halftime.

Walls' field goal kick-started a 20-0 run for the Lightning, who continued with Gray's 21-yard pass to Clarence Cunningham with 10:03 left in the third quarter, a one-yard smash by FB Peter Tuialuuluu up the middle with 8:09 remaining, and a 39-yard touchdown missle to Key down the right sideline with 12:22 left in the fourth.

Boise's one last gasp came after an interception by Cody Weight in the endzone, followed by QB Bart Hendricks' 12-yard touchdown pass to Allen with 9:17 to cut the deficit to 44-33.

Key's third touchdown reception, a nine-yard score in the left corner of the endzone at the one-minute mark, and a Lyndell Hawkins one-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown at the buzzer sealed the score.

Gray posted a 16-for-29 completion rate with 196 passing yards, while Hendricks, the former star signal-caller for Boise State, was held to just 19-for-41 with 219 passing yards. DB Travis Seaton led the Lightning defense with seven tackles and has 17 take-downs in his last two games.
