(LONDON, Ontario) - Saturday night, in front of 4,955 fans at Budweiser Gardens, the London Lightning defeated the Niagara River Lions, 122-109.

The Lightning now stand at 1-0.

"Tonight, we showed grit and toughness. We got off to an awful start but we bore down and we showed each other what happens when you concentrate and trust the process," said head coach Kyle Julius.

Leading all scorers Saturday was London native Warren Ward with 31 points.

"Our team stuck together. Things were tough in the first quarter but we stuck with it and played as a unit. Going forward we are going to stay hungry and continue to trust the game plan," said Ward.

Other top performers included Tyshawn Patterson with 22 points, Garrett Williamson with 20 points and Chad Posthumus with 14 points and 18 rebounds.

The Lightning play their next game Sunday evening in Niagara against the River Lions and will be back in action at Budweiser Gardens on Tuesday evening against the Windsor Express. Tickets are available through the Budweiser Gardens Box Office, or by visiting www.budweisergardens.com.
