Louisville Lightning News Release

The Louisville Lightning management knows that if the team is going to hoist its first league trophy this season, they'll need veteran leadership to do so. They're making a move to do just that, signing former USL standout Kolby Lacrone to a one-year deal this week. Lacrone joins the team immediately and is expected to be in uniform November 12th for the season opener against Cincinnati.

The Lightning is quickly establishing itself as a team laden with professional experience. Many of the players honed their skills with top-level leagues including Major League Soccer and the United Soccer Leagues, and now general manager David Horne has added another impressive signing to the list. The team agreed to terms with former USL star Kolby Lacrone.

Lacrone comes to Louisville from the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of USL 2. Lacrone also previously played for the Cleveland City Stars of the USL First Division, as well as the West Virginia Chaos of the USL Premier Development League. Lacrone made nearly 40 appearances for the trio of clubs over the last three years.

Lacrone began his collegiate career at Big East juggernauts West Virginia University, but eventually transferred to in-state rivals Marshall University, where he led all scorers as a member of the Thundering Herd. He started all 16 games in his first season at Marshall, recording his first collegiate goal against the Louisville Cardinals in a Big East-Conference USA tilt. Lacrone scored 13 goals in his three seasons with Marshall before signing with Cleveland on April 2009, making his professional debut against Miami FC on April 18, 2009 and playing 16 minutes for the City Stars.

Kolby comes to the Lightning with high praise from his former coach at Marshall, Bob Gray. "Kolby is very passionate about our great game, and he has the technical abilities to play at this level," Gray said of Lacrone.

A native of Zanesville, Ohio, Kolby has put an emphasis on using his success to give back. He established the 'Kolby's Kickers Foundation' in his hometown to offer free soccer clinics to developmentally disabled and disadvantaged children. The non-profit organization introduces soccer to kids and allows each child to develop physically and mentally throughout various aspects of the game.

Kolby will be in uniform for the Lightning's season opener November 12th against the Cincinnati Kings. For ticket information for that game, check out www.louisvillelightning.com/home/464198.html
