Louisville Lightning News Release

TAYLOR, MI -- The Louisville Lightning captured a critical 7-6 road win over the Detroit Waza at the Taylor Sportsplex Sunday afternoon.

Louisville improved to 5-4 and moved into a tie with St. Louis for second place, one game back of 1790 Cincinnati Express in the PASL-Pro's Eastern Division. Detroit fell to 5-5.

With six road games in the books and just three played at home the Lightning greatly improved their playoff chances, but they almost blew a huge lead.

After a scoreless first quarter, Andrew Fitzgerald gave Louisville a 1-0 lead with 13:58 remaining in the second. Less than two minutes later David Horne extended it to 2-0 and the teams would go into halftime with Louisville leading 3-1.

The third quarter was all Lightning. Capped off by Gabe Mercier's late goal, the Lightning would go into the final stanza with a commanding 6-1 lead.

The Waza came to life in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 6-4 before Patrick Bueno scored an empty net goal against the sixth attacker with 4:08 to play. Detroit made one final push scoring a power play goal with 1:28 to play and one more tally with 37 seconds left, but could not find the equalizer.

Drew Ducker and Matt Johnson had two goals apiece for Detroit.

Louisville ended their three game road trip with a 1-2 record, but now return home for three games starting with the St. Louis Illusion on January 22 at 7:30pm at Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club.
